The Marhaba 2026 operation plans 2,403 weekly flights by 58 airlines, up 55%. Despite increased supply, RNI and PAM lawmakers denounce excessive air and maritime fares for MREs. Minister Kayouh defends expanded offer, while talks aim to streamline ports and Laâyoune airport, and upgrade El Guerguerat crossing.

Holidays in Morocco: ticket prices rise for MREs

Operation Marhaba 2026 is set to be marked by volume. The Ministry of Transport approves 58 airlines to provide 2 403 weekly services to 160 airports in 61 countries, a 55 % increase in flights compared with last summer. This market opening, rooted in the 2006 policy, should encourage low‑cost competition. Yet the abundance of supply does not quell the anger.

In the House of Councillors, the RNI and PAM groups take a stand. They denounce excessive air and sea fares, accusing international carriers of exploiting seasonal demand at the expense of family budgets. For these representatives, MREs can no longer be managed on a “circumstantial” basis limited to holidays. They demand a lasting policy.

Minister Abdessamad Kayouh defends the expansion of supply as a response to demand. On the maritime side, consultations are underway to secure links from Spain, France and Italy. But parliamentarians demand concrete action on the ground: streamline port traffic, cut waiting times and roll out technological solutions to absorb peak crowds in terminals.

Vigilance extends to the other gateways of the territory. The El Guerguerat border post, the obligatory passage from Africa, awaits better health facilities and suitable assistance areas. In Laâyoune, representatives urge the executive to anticipate the recurring summer saturation of the airport.
